Artist Statement:
In the last stages of my school days I attended painting evening classes. This and my good fortune to be able to draw and paint well became my foundation to becoming an artist. When leaving school after advice from my art teacher I became an apprentice electrician, and went on to other various jobs. With periods of unemployment and work that never seemed to have any constitution became hopeless. My interest in art through all this was always the reason for most things, and nothing seemed to satisfy me as much as the brush, pencil, and making things.
My life is now disciplined and dedicated to being a full time artist. I draw inspiration from many aspects within nature, life and history. Then I find colour shape and form takes over to the point of a finished piece this dictates my experiences. These experiences represented through various perspectives and colour dimension begin to take on a life of their own. This energy is often dictated by the chosen surface before the piece is undertaken.
Much thought and preplanning is considered; my work is never simply just done. Preliminary sketches, subject, and field research becomes essential to the process that progresses me to higher levels of visual understandings. This method also enables me to produce completed pieces with more intensity and higher finished visual impact…
In the past few years I have completed several exhibitions and attended many summer shows with my work, all in and around Wales. I have recently sold prints, paintings, and 3d work to the Netherlands.
