I Wanna Be Me

When I'm alone and there's no one about, I talk to myself, sometimes I shout
the cupboards bare I need some smokes, I go outside the door
then can't decide which way to go
Do you want my sanity to keep in a little box, with a picture of your Mother and her lover
bless their cotton socks

I turn the radio off I'm bored, they don't play the songs I like to hear anymore
It's Autumn now, last time I looked, you were barely dressed and summer had you very hooked
You called me by my first name now you call me by my last,
so call me when you need me, only when you need me bad...

'Cos I wanna be me, I wanna prey, I wanna drink, I wanna see
how far it's possible to sink
I wanna be me, I want to cry in public places when I like
I want to exit when the exit sign's

To say that I'm confused would be a little understating everything I ever done
you spent a lot of time on us, still you can't trust yourself so how can I trust anyone
Do you want me to be what I want to be at all,
or a makeshift carbon copy of a guy you knew named Paul
who taught you how to love and leave the consequence behind
I've got his haircut and his jeans but I don't want his mind...

'Cos I wanna be me, I wanna prey, I wanna drink, I wanna see
how far it's possible to sink
I wanna be me, I want to cry in public places when I like
I want to exit when the exit sign's alight I want to exit when the exit sign's alight I want to exit when the exit sign's alight
